My parents always taught my sister and I that aside from everything else, if you keep Christ at the head of your life you will figure the rest out. As I got older, I recognized that it was by faith and more specifically conscious acts of faith that motivated me to become the best version of myself. In high school, I joined a program at my church New Faith Baptist Church International called J.A.M (Jesus and Me). John 15:5 was the foundation scripture of the program. The scripture says “I am the vine, you are the branches, if you abide in me you will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing. Jesus was telling believers to abide in Him, the realized Word of God. Wether it’s mentoring, community development, art, or now leading Chicago Scholars, the work of my life has been about bearing fruit. I’m blessed to see mentees happily married and succeeding in their career while giving back to their communities, companies I’ve helped with technology thriving in a pandemic, churches I’ve built websites for using the work of my hands to support their congregations in a pandemic, and my art reach and inspire hope in people across the globe. I’m so grateful.
I just want to be remembered for my work.
