I painted this on 12/27 and thought it was done. Then I went to sleep and woke up at 6am the next day and changed it... like life, there’s always an opportunity to change for the better... the first painting I posted last year was The Journey. It’s a piece I did of a little boy who looks as if he’s trying to find his way. I captioned that piece and said, “I’m not exactly sure how it will happen but God will allow me to open a gallery in 2020.” Little did I know at the time what was ahead. A pandemic, a fight for racial justice, personal healing, a wake up call about self care and a summer of immense growth. I started the year king of like the little boy in this image... tucked behind a wall of busyness and stress but like the little boy in the photo I also was ready to unlock somethings within myself and begin to breakout all the potential that was there to action. There was pain and loss required to grow. I spent more time with God, more time with myself, and focused on those things that were true priorities. From April - September I committed to working out more, resting, and eating better. In November, I signed the lease to a gallery and media studio in Bridgeport. In December, I was named Interim CEO at work. I’ve gone through so many personal changes this year and experienced a ton of growth in 2020 and I’m grateful. Like all of us, I’ve experienced loss, some challenges, and pain. Through it all however, I’m excited for 2021. I know the best is ahead. I painted this as a reminder, especially for young men that you may fall, you may experience hardship or pain, but you can get back up and continue to fight. Life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon, and fortunately this race isn’t given to the fastest runner but to those with the most endurance.
