A Father's Love (2022) Original Piece
On 3/19 I was attacked in an attempted robbery. My eye socket was fractured and I suffered a severe eye injury. I had surgery on 4/8. During that time I created a series of paintings with my left eye that represented visions and dreams I had as I recovered. This piece was one of them. Sleeping has been hard between the pain meds and head pain… so I find some peace in the 15 minute sprits of painting … even if It’s just with 1 eye for a while… I’ll keep going.
Sometimes you have to have the distractions removed so you can see what God has for you with clarity…. Like the eye of a father looking at their child… see with unconditional love, blameless, and intentional … this is painted to defeat the allegory that black fathers are absent.. I know far too many great ones including my own, Jeffery Beckham Sr. who has been the absolute best example possible.

Still painting with one eye.. trusting my hand and heart more and head less…. Maybe that’s part of the lesson in all of this…. Trust my hands and my heart more …
