This summer I took part in multiple marches around the city. Many for social justice, many for peace. To feel the energy and solidarity in support of change was an awakening experience. At a Faith March in May we stopped at one point and they began to say the names of so many of the lives we lost to racial injustice in America and I was moved to tears. I thought about my own interactions with police and rogue security guards and I couldn’t help but feel grateful and angry at the same time. I wanted to paint something that was powerful but also hopeful. Heroes Live In Color 5: Summer Reign 40X30 Acrylic on Canvas I adapted the original photo from a Vanity Fair article in May.
